PS - I had 512MB PC3200 memory in mine from the Apple factory. There are a total of two slots available. It appears that 2GB is the maximum amount of memory that can be installed on the iMAC G5 computer.
Since I recently purchased a 1GB PC3200 from Frys, for my wife’s computer, I decided to remove one of her 512MB and double the iMac memory to a total of 1GB. This gave my wife 1.5GB on her PC running Windows XP and my extra iMac a total of 1GB.

Refer to the capacitor article for information and pictures on how to go beyond opening the iMac case and where to the problem capacitors are located on the main board.
