Jury Duty Served My Civic Duty
Today I got to spend a morning waiting around in a small room filled with 91 potential juror candidates. They over did it when it came to calling in potential jurors on this one. They expected to have three jury trials, but instead only one was looking like it was going to go to the full jury trial in the afternoon. So, they randomly selected half the group and called those people in alphabetical order just before noon. Nope, my name was not selected. They let those not called leave with duty served. The others had to come back after 1:30 in the afternoon. At least they got a long lunch.

California’s Contra Costa County has what they call, one day, one trial, one year, and you have done your civic duty. Well, I don’t know if any of those folks had to serve on a jury, however there were quite a number of jealous people from those that had to come back in the afternoon. I don’t think it would have been too bad to serve. These would have been all misdemeanor cases lasting one to three days.
So, go do the right thing, serve your community, do your civic duty.
